MADSEN wieder in Lüchow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Madsen is a great band from the Wendland, my place of birth. They will soon be playing there again. I already have my ticket for only 9 Euro for their concert in Lüchow on July 05. You can find out more and some videos at Madsen's page and some more in my previous post .

Aztec Camera Live Milan 04.11.1984

As I still don't have my records back, you get some more tape recordings. While checking my stuff I found some tapes again I bought in London when I visited Matthias Hanich in 1987, see there. Expect some more of this for the next posts. This is the first. Roddy Frame and his band Aztec Camera played live in Milan/Mailand Italy on November 04 1984. Since I recorded the tape last week I can not get these fantastic tunes out of my head, I am humming Matress and wires all the time, it still is that great! The sound quality is pretty good, I think this is a radio transmission. Here is the tracklist: 01 Matress of wire 02 Introduction 03 Lost outside the tunnel 04 Head is happy, heart's insane 05 Walk out to winter 06 The bugle sounds again 07 The boy wonders 08 We could send letters 09 Backwards and forwards 10 Oblivious 11 All I need is everything 12 Still on fire 13 The back door to heaven 14 The knife 15 The birth of the truth 16 Down the dip 17 Back on board 18 Jump (Van Halen...

Human League - Live Berlin Kant Kino 23.11.1980

Today it is Reunification Day in Germany, so it is a day off, that's why you get this post with a connection to then separated Berlin in 1980. Human League, combining electronics with Pop in the late seventies with their albums Travelogue and Reproduction (don't expect links, you can find them anywhere) were really great in trying to sound difficult, while they were POP. This might have it's roots in the two teams in the band. Phil Oakey, the guy with the Blade Runner makeup and Adrian Lyne, who later carried on (get the pun, eh?) with Human League were on the more Pop/Fun side (although Adrian was a bit arty) while Ian Craig-Marsh and Martyn Ware wanted to back the electronic music revolution with the liberation of the proletariat! They tried so with Heaven 17 (The name came, off course, from Clockwork Orange. Now it is easy to find it cheesy, but I think they really meant it!) Fantastic Pop songs, not much impact on the masses concerning the revolution... This posting giv...

80s radio concerts

As I told you earlier, I had several new posts preproduced. I will throw them at you all in one post, as they all were concerts I taped from the radio, predominantly NDR2 or NDR1 Musik für junge Leute. As I found out during my research, these must have been records sent out by the record companys to the radio stations, as you can sometimes hear some cracks. Some of the concerts have some static noises now and then, but that makes up for authenticity! At least I hope so... Due to the length these are obviously no complete recordings of the concerts, a few tracks are always missing. So I start with an important part of the gloomy early 80s, Bauhaus. I saw them in the Markthalle Hamburg in late 1981, that's were I took the pic, not at the Old Vic in London from February 1982 Bauhaus - London, Old Vic 0282 A different musical area is ploughed by Yazoo (called Yaz in the States due to legal problems with the old time record label of the same name). Perfect SynthPop! I remember lying in ...

I have a job again! Time to celebrate

After a long time of unemployment (hence the PayPal links, where nobody felt the urge to send anything) I finally have a new job! This means that you have to look forward to even longer breaks until something new appears on this blog. I have already scanned several Tapes and LPs for future use, but new releases may take some time, still you can ask for requests. For a start here is something by Fad Gadget. The 12" "Collapsing new people" and a concert from 29.03.1984 in the Markthalle Hamburg, that was later broadcast on the radio. I was there, but this time I didn't take a camera. Fad Gadget - Collapsing new people 12" Fad Gadget - Live Hamburg, Markthalle 29.03.1984 The next file I post is by the fantastic Kevin Rowland and his Dexy's Midnight Runners, a concert on Rockpalast on german TV on April fourth 1983. Dexy's Midnight Runners - Live Rockpalast 03.04.1983 Too-Rye-Ay was one of the records of the summer of 82 but I actually only bought it on Feb....

AFRIKA BAMBAATAA live on BFBS 1983

Here is something new again! We just entered the 90s on Not Rock on, so here is Hip-Hop from the early 80s! In my post on John Cale I already mentioned Alan Bangs, famous night-talker on the german airwaves. He worked for BFBS, the radio service for british troops in Germany and also for German TV on Rockpalast. His show was always very personal, and always very informative. He knew how to combine personal interest with what the people would want to hear. In this special night he had guests, I think he did not know what to exactly expect from them. AFRIKA BAMBAATAA (sometimes spelled Bambaata, but I could not find out exactly when he changed it) was on the Wheels of Steel (aka turntables) at BFBS HQ in February 1983. I asked them for the exact date, but did not receive an answer yet. Alan Bangs was obviously not able to cope with the energy Bam, IKC and Mr. Biggs had to offer. I am a bit unsure about the identity of IKC, he says he was part of Funky Four + One. If I misheard it,...

Live 2. Münchner Rocktage 1982

Looking at my last posts, you find some live recordings and here is another one, recorded in May 1982 (I think). The event were the "Münchener Rocktage" (Munich Rock days) with several german New Wave bands. I recorded this from the radio, but on a cheap tape, sound is ok. Liaisons Dangereuses play their classic "Los ninos del parque", Die Krupps bang on steel and (mainly) synths for "Goldfinger" and "Wahre Arbeit wahrer Lohn". Peter Hein & Family 5 played in public for the first time. A Latin version of the Fehlfarben classic "Es geht voran" and "Muff Gruff" show him in a angry mood, ranting about how bad Fehlfarben were and how bad the NDW-bands that went to the charts were... Two songs each by Trio "Yaya", "Los Paul!" and Östro 430 "16!, "Ich bin ganz normal". Side two of the tape was taken by short sets by bands from Hannover: Der moderne Man "Blaue Matrosen, Der Sandman, Am Bag...

John Cale live 1983

Hello, I'm back again. Other things to do, some trouble with my internet provider, such were things that kept me from posting. My first "new" post is a fantastic live performance by the great John Cale from March 7th 1983 in the Markthalle in Hamburg. Just him solo with his guitar and piano, very intense, but also very charming as he was in pretty good mood, joked with the audience and seemed to have a good time himself. Until then I had only heard very little by John Cale, but after this concert I was hooked. I have seen him a few times since then, mostly solo but 2003 he played a free open-air in Oldenburg with a band. The sound quality is pretty good as it was later broadcasted on NDR 2. John Cale live 07.03.1983, Markthalle Hamburg part 1 John Cale live 07.03.1983, Markthalle Hamburg part 2 The second post is a performance John Cale gave in the studios of BFBS in Cologne on February 5th 1984 in Alan Bangs' show Nightflight. It's not the complete show, only a ...

Höhner

Sorry for neglecting my blog in the last weeks, but there were other things to be done, like tidying up my mp3 collection! Many people put stuff online without using the id3 tags or using different formats than I prefer, so a lot of typing had to be done (I'm still not through!). Here is something typically german I think, Karnevalmusik from Köln (Cologne)! In the early 90s I had the chance to see first hand what the Kölsch do in Karneval. I was very sceptical, because it is not very popular in the north of Germany, which is my part of it. But I had the chance to view the "street" Karneval, and it was great fun! At that time De Höhner were very popular and "Echte Fründe" (real friends) was everywhere and I liked it. They astonishingly use a lot of Irish music with words in the Cologne dialect, a nice mixture. This is a live recording from 1991 with their greatest hits 'til then (Viva Colonia unfortunately isn't included) and two special songs with Willy ...

Birthday Party live in Bremen 01.07.1982

This is a recording of a concert of the fantastic Birthday Party (ft. Nick Cave) on their European summer tour with Lydia Lunch. Recorded in the Aladin, Bremen on July, 01 1982. Tracklist in the comments! Birthday Party live in Bremen 01.07.1982 as a bonus you get the track from the 12" from the limited edition of "The art of falling apart" by Soft Cell. I payed 80 DM for it! Unfortunately I do not have it anymore as this was stolen together with several early Marc Almond 12" and bootlegs! Sob... Soft Cell - Martin

Violent Femmes live 84

Almost 23 years ago I taped something nice from the radio. Recently I had to listen to Gnarls Barkley's version of "Gone Daddy Gone" (nice video!), so I dug this out of the vaults at Not Rock On Mansion. On Feb 07 1984 the Violent Femmes played in the Markthalle, Hamburg. Unfortunately I could not be there, but I got there when they returned in September. I took some nice pictures of Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie and Victor DeLorenzo. Unfortunately I used a slide film and I don't have a scanner for these. I had some prints made, but they are at my parents. On Feb 11 1984 the Violent Femmes were guests in Alan Bangs' Nightflight on BFBS, playing some songs acoustic live in the studio! There are also some comments from AB. Tracklists in the comments! Violent Femmes @ Markthalle, Hamburg 07.02.1984 Violent Femmes @ Alan Bangs Nightflight BFBS 11.02.1984

Abwärts live & Malaria Emotion then : Great post on rho-xs.blogspot.com

I just wanted to up my Abwärts Live tape from Munich 1982 when I saw this . You will find a great compendium on a great view of NDW, not just Nena, nor Markus. The Abwärts tape is (I think) from autumn 82 in the Alabamahalle, München. Abwärts live 1982 München Then there is that fantastic group Malaria, formerly Mania D. Their LP EMOTION was a shock to me in 83, THAT STRONG!!! Malaria - Emotion 1982

Jonathan Richman live in Hildesheim

This is a huge file and a wonderful piece of entertainment. If you ever get the chance to see Jonathan Richman you HAVE to go see him! I saw him quite a few times already and his concert in Hildesheims Vier Linden was one of my favorites. A few days before I saw him in Berlin at the Loft, pretty good concert, but not that extraordinary. In Hildesheim there was a completely different crowd, maybe it has to do with the old small - big town. The crowd assisted Jojo from beginning to end (The Beat!). He recruited singers from the audience and played songs asked for by listener´s (well, not always...). I can be heard on several occasions on this tape (btw, it is a very good audience recording by a guy from Hannover, who gave his tape recorder to his underage son to avoid problems). I recommended the Bermuda song, because I had heard the story already in Berlin. It is pretty funny that I heard the Bermuda Strollers' song Bang bang Lulu a few days after the concert as muzak in a supermar...

The Smiths live in Hamburg 1984

This is the first of a series of concert tapes you will find here in the next time. The Smiths live in Hamburg, Markthalle 04.05.1984 As far as I know this was the first and only time The Smiths ever played live in Germany, and I was there! The show was recorded for Rockpalast on TV (one week later they and I were back there for the Carmel concert) and later also broadcast by NDR 2 on radio. I knew only the singles back then and was very curious how this then still little known band from England would be live, and they were fantastic! Morrissey entered the stage with a large bunch of flowers on the back of his jeans, a horde of english fans singing his name. After the first track he asked the crowd to come closer, because due to the TV recording the ground floor of the Markthalle was blocked for the cameras. Suddenly the fans rushed forward (poor cameramen!) and I was standing directly at the front of the stage (as you can see in the pictures of my previous post ). While they p...

Bernd Begemann Live

As you could already read in my post for the release party for the Greatest Hits of the Süddeutsche Zeitung series 1000 Songs , I am a great fan of the german entertainer Bernd Begemann . This Live CD gives a very good overview for new listeners. The man alone with his guitar rocking the crowd, everybody singing along having a great time! Bernd Begemann Live The autograph on the cover translates to 'always in good company with...'

Marc Almond - Live 1985 somewhere in Germany

This is a 2 LP record from a concert on Marc Almond's 1985 "Stories of Johnny" Tour, obviously in Germany, he sometimes says Danke. It has almost no info, just "Some Illegal" in the typo of Some Bizarre and is a little over 81 minutes long. The tracklist is almost identical to the concert in the Markthalle in Hamburg on 06.12.85 which I attended. I took some photos and also have a live tape a girl in the audience made with her walkman, so the sound quality is pretty lousy, but this recording is much better, but also not perfect. The difference between the concerts is that he played "House of the rising sun" in Hamburg, where on this recording you can hear "A woman's story". I took a few hours to remove cracks, but it is still not Hi-Fi. Marc Almond - Live 85 Germany I have some more pictures here and here.

Pix wanted???????????????????

If anybody would like any of the photos posted here, you can get them in good scan quality or as original photos. Just contact me. payment via PayPal. There is more to come and they look much better in their original form. And soon I hope I will be able to accompany them with the sounds! (I hope I will find someone to fix my Tapedeck (It is a BRAUN C 4 (atelier series), it doesn't play the tape, it blocks after a few seconds, plays, but does not give any sound, any help appreciated!)

The Smiths, Markthalle Hamburg, Germany 04.05.1984

This was a fantastic Concert! As far as I know it was the only time The Smiths played in Germany, and it was the last night with my girlfriend... We can both be seen on the Rockpalast video of this gig. I caught some of Morrissey's flowers and a part of his shirt (unfortunately later stolen by some ignorant bastard!) I still have both today (except for the  shirt...) but not that girlfriend. I have a pretty good tape of this (broadcast on radio) but unfortunately my tape machine doesn't work at the moment. I will post the mp3 later. Watch the archive for pix of Siouxsie & The Banshees, Marc Almond and myself;-) Here is the song of that night : The Smiths - Still ill (in memory of May 84) Here you can find the playlist and more on this great evening, fantastic site for fans of The Smiths and Morrissey !

Marc Almond 06.12.85 Hamburg Markthalle

These are Pics of the Marc Almond & The Willing Sinners concert at the Markthalle in Hamburg on 06.12.1985, performing songs from the "Stories of Johnny" LP. I even have a cassette from this show. It is great to hear, when you were there, but pretty useless (soundwise) if you were not.I was in San Francisco recently and I went to the most incredible record store in the world : AMOEBA !!!! First I was in the Berkely store, that was amazing and pleasure work for hours, but you can spend days in the San Francisco store on Haight St! I spent a lot of money there and I will definitely come back! And I found Marc Almond and Soft Cell Bootlegs I didn't even hear of before! Here is a song I love by Marc Almond : Marc Almond & Foetus - Beat out that rhythm on a drum Have fun with it!
