Höhner
Sorry for neglecting my blog in the last weeks, but there were other things to be done, like tidying up my mp3 collection! Many people put stuff online without using the id3 tags or using different formats than I prefer, so a lot of typing had to be done (I'm still not through!).
De Höhner - Kumm loss mer fiere! 1991
Here is something typically german I think, Karnevalmusik from Köln (Cologne)!
In the early 90s I had the chance to see first hand what the Kölsch do in Karneval. I was very sceptical, because it is not very popular in the north of Germany, which is my part of it. But I had the chance to view the "street" Karneval, and it was great fun! At that time De Höhner were very popular and "Echte Fründe" (real friends) was everywhere and I liked it. They astonishingly use a lot of Irish music with words in the Cologne dialect, a nice mixture. This is a live recording from 1991 with their greatest hits 'til then (Viva Colonia unfortunately isn't included) and two special songs with Willy Millowitsch, the impersonation of Cologne for many decades. Enjoy!

I have fond memories of attending my first Koln Karneval back in 2004. Viva Colonia (talk about a fair amount of Irish music!) was being playied everywhere aside from other songs by Hohner. I eventually ended up getting a few CDs of Hohner's catalogue including 1 double CD set with live performaces on one of then, even if I still have to figure out the non-German (Koln dialect) words.
Anyway, every February from then on, I find myself together with friends in Koln for the Karneval.
Cheers! Jean Paul
