Höhner

Sorry for neglecting my blog in the last weeks, but there were other things to be done, like tidying up my mp3 collection! Many people put stuff online without using the id3 tags or using different formats than I prefer, so a lot of typing had to be done (I'm still not through!).
Here is something typically german I think, Karnevalmusik from Köln (Cologne)!
In the early 90s I had the chance to see first hand what the Kölsch do in Karneval. I was very sceptical, because it is not very popular in the north of Germany, which is my part of it. But I had the chance to view the "street" Karneval, and it was great fun! At that time De Höhner were very popular and "Echte Fründe" (real friends) was everywhere and I liked it. They astonishingly use a lot of Irish music with words in the Cologne dialect, a nice mixture. This is a live recording from 1991 with their greatest hits 'til then (Viva Colonia unfortunately isn't included) and two special songs with Willy Millowitsch, the impersonation of Cologne for many decades. Enjoy!

I have fond memories of attending my first Koln Karneval back in 2004. Viva Colonia (talk about a fair amount of Irish music!) was being playied everywhere aside from other songs by Hohner. I eventually ended up getting a few CDs of Hohner's catalogue including 1 double CD set with live performaces on one of then, even if I still have to figure out the non-German (Koln dialect) words.

Anyway, every February from then on, I find myself together with friends in Koln for the Karneval.

Cheers! Jean Paul

As I will be away for a while here are the missing episodes of this wonderful series of compilations that really shows the diversity of 80s Indie music. All CD rips 192 kb, tracklists in the comments. I had to split most in two parts as they were slightly over 100 MB. Part 1 is on RS, part 2 is on Mediafire. Hallo liebe 14 Leser,

Temporaril...

Anna Domino

This is must be the post I put the most pre-production in yet! Several Lps, 12" and CDs had to be scanned, the net had to be searched for information (rather small results, so I think this might be of help), my scanner had to work (and failed...). So here it is : ANNA DOMINO! some info I first heard of Anna Domino in the summer of 84, when Stefan Kühne played Land of my dreams. I was struck by this voice, haunting and loveable. Anna Domino - East and west 1984 The first record I bought was the Rhythm EP, german pressing, with a nice version of 16 Tons, her voice with pretty heavy rhythms, much bass, that's what I like! In 04 I found the original Crepuscule pressing (you can hear and see now) in a very nice record store in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They must have unknowingly opened a box they received 20 years earlier, because they were selling original pressings from the 80s for 1 or 2 CDN$, a joke! I carried out as much as I could, but the airlines set a limit...
